POWERS AND ABILITIES
The MARVEL appears to have no super powers, relying instead on his extraordinary
fighting abilities, skill with a gun, and keen deductive mind.
HISTORY
Scoop Cody’s editor assigns him to track down King Carr the racketeer.
Scoop goes to the Acme Protection Agency to confront Carr head on about
the murder of Jimmy Brady. Unwittingly Scoop ends up on the wrong side
of a gun, almost certain death awaits him! But then....
"Thanks, gentlemen, for soundproofing the room. Now
I can shoot you without attracting attention," the masked mystery
man cracks behind his full-face mask. Standing there with an automatic
in his gloved hand, the tuxedo-clad mystery man continues," One
moment young man. My card—I'll hold off these mugs until you get
away. Find King Carr. You know where he is hidden."
While the gang attacks the mystery man, a few thugs head
out just behind Scoop Cody. Down on the street below, Scoop looks at
his newfound friend’s card. It reads: "MARVEL." Scoop
deduces that Carr is hiding out at a power plant where he worked before
becoming a criminal. Followed by the escaped hoods and the MARVEL, Scoop
makes it to the power plant just as his car overheats. Going inside
he asks the headman on duty if he can use his waterspout, but immediately
Scoop recognizes the worker as King Carr. Scoop pretends that he has
a gun in his coat pocket and orders Carr to come along with him. But
before he can leave, King Carr's men arrive on the scene and overpower
the reporter.
When Scoop wakes, up he finds himself tied to a chair
and wired to the power plant generators. Carr explains to Scoop that
he won't live to tell what he knows now. Scoop thinks that this is a
good time for the MARVEL to show up "O MARVEL, If I ever needed
you ...its now!" he thinks to himself. And just as Carr is about
to drop the power switch on Scoop, a cloud of smoke rises out of the
corner window and a shot strikes Carr's hand preventing him from pulling
the switch!
The MARVEL takes out Carr's thugs and has Scoop Cody take
them into custody. As the MARVEL departs, Scoop says that he hopes he
can do as much for the MARVEL sometime. The MARVEL replies that he hopes
that day never comes. Once at police headquarters, the police agree
to give scoop enough time to write his story for the evening edition
before they announce the capture of Carr and his gang. Back at his desk
at the paper, Scoop Cody wonders who the MARVEL truly is! The identity
of the MARVEL will be revealed. Stay tuned!
