America, 1943: sabotage plagues the war industry in the United States; plants are blown up, power lines are disrupted, and telephone lines are cut. The Worldwide Insurance Company is paying out millions of dollars in insurance payments for these acts. Warren Hamilton , the company’s president, and his Vice-President, Martin Crane are beside themselves. Hamilton decides to call in the world-famous crimefighter, the Masked Marvel, for he can prove that the sabotage is being committed by the Japanese Spy Mura Sakima. Later at his secret headquarters, the master spy hears of this news first hand from his confederate Martin Crane. Sakima plans to steal those incriminating documents before the Masked Marvel can get possession of them and bust his ring of saboteurs. When Warren Hamilton, along with his daughter Alice Hamilton and Martin Crane, is about to leave his estate, he is confronted by racketeer Killer Mace, who demands the documents at gunpoint! After obtaining the papers Killer Mace shoots Warren Hamilton dead and escapes, but not before Martin Crane guns down Mace’s unknown accomplice, thus placing himself above suspicion. Fortunately, Warren Hamilton had duplicated the incriminating documents, and Alice decides to turn those papers over to the Masked Marvel in a meeting scheduled for that very night. Martin Crane reports this news to Sakima, who orders Killer Mace to get those papers before the Masked Marvel can get his hands on them. Just minutes before the Masked Marvel can retrieve the papers, Killer Mace breaks into the Hamilton residence and demands the papers from Alice Hamilton, while Martin Crane looks on. Suddenly, in bursts the Masked Marvel, who, in an ensuing gun battle, gets the papers from Mace, who had dropped them while trying to escape. Meanwhile four ace detectives, colleagues of the Masked Marvel, arrive at the Hamilton home. First to arrive is Frank Jeffers, followed by Terry Morton, Robert Barton, and Jim Harmond. The Masked Marvel slips into the Hamilton study and leaves the stolen papers along with a note and a phonograph record to be played for the four men. They do so and the instructions are now known to all. In part of the message, Alice Hamilton learns that the Masked Marvel will only reveal his true identity to her to gain her trust. The four men and Crane return the following morning to discuss what they have learned from the documents provided by Alice Hamilton. After they have all left, Alice gets a visit from the Masked Marvel, who reveals his identity! He is one of the four detectives! Of course she now feels confident that the Masked Marvel and his men can bring Mura Sakima to justice. The chase is on with the four detectives Japanese spy ring, who are themselves trying to ascertain the Masked Marvel’s identity and kill him. But who is the Masked Marvel? After the deaths of Frank Jeffers and Jim Hammond, Mura Sakima is closer to discovering who this man of mystery really is. But the evil spy never gets this opportunity, for the Masked Marvel runs him to ground and Sakima and his men die in an explosion, which they hoped would destroy the crimefighter. After the two remaining investigators good-bye to a grateful Alice Hamilton, the Masked Marvel returns to give Alice his mask. We finally find out that Robert Barton is the Masked Marvel, scourge of all evildoers everywhere! ______________________________________ All information is taken from "The Masked Marvel," a Republic Pictures movie serial in 12 chapters done in 1943. end transmission. |
