Here is a heroine who, like her mentor, is a potent force for good in the world.
This is the amazing profile on...

Supergirl

When the planet Krypton explodes, the domed city of Argo survives, roaming among the stars. When the ground turns to lethal kryptonite, the streets are covered with lead shielding, and the populace again lives on. Many years later a girl named Kara is born to Alura and Zor-El, a Kryptonian scientist and brother to Jor-El, Superman II's father. But a swarm of meteors perforates the shielding and slowly poisons the air of Argo City. In the months of life that remains, Zor-El builds a rocket and sends his 15-year-old daughter to Earth.

Crashing just outside of Metropolis on Earth, she exits the rocket and finds her cousin Superman II (see individual entry), who, although amazed at this discovery, helps Kara come up with a secret identity of her own as Linda Lee, an orphan girl. She is placed in an orphanage, but is soon adopted by Fred and Edna Danvers and the super-girl from space now has a home where she attends Midvale High School.

In the ensuing years Superman teaches Kara how to use her powers so that she can become a power for good in a world plagued with trouble and evil. Eventually Kara's existence is revealed to the world as Supergirl, the Maid of Steel! With many amazing powers including flight, super-strength and super-speed, Supergirl is also invulnerable to all harm except from kryptonite and magic. She also possesses telescopic vision, x-ray vision, heat vision, and an array of other super-sensory powers just like her cousin Superman (II). Kara as Supergirl has an outstanding career as a super-heroine.
