My fair moon maiden, you are too kind, for I am no longer king of my underground realm. I have ventured forth into the world of the surface dwellers to record such exploits as those in our next profile on...

Nightmare

Bob White and his pal Terry Wake are on a bus bound for the big city. Bob, an ace wrestler, is coming to town to show his talents off against the crooked wrestling federation that cheats people out of their money and gives his sport a bad name. But Bob has not bargained for his meeting with the Checker, the crook who runs fixed gambling in this town. Not content with racketeering, the Checker plans to steal the city's firehouse and hold it for ransom.

But Bob and Terry are not about to take this crime lying down! They spring into action against the checker and his gang as the twin terrors of criminals everywhere...Nightmare and Sleepy! In the darkness only the skeletal outlines of their outfits are visible--all anyone can see is their red-hooded capes and gloves plus the skull-and-crossbones emblems on their chests. This macabre sight panics the thugs! In an all-out fight with the Checker's men, they learn how the city's firehouse was stolen and capture the Checker and his gang in the process! By recovering the ransom money and returning it to the police, Nightmare and Sleepy (see individual entry) begin their war on crime. Wherever Bob White and his young manager Terry Wake go to ply their trade, they are ever ready to defend innocent civilians as Nightmare and Sleepy. But halfway through their careers Nightmare and Sleepy would part company, and Nightmare would don a new outfit. But that is a story for another time....
