Men call me the Black Devil.
For it was I, a simple honest man, who defeated the King Voodoo Man of my native Haiti by trapping his spirit in my body. So take it from me, one who has seen the darkest of nights, when I tell you of... The Black Fury |

| John Perry, hard-hitting gossip columnist for the Daily Claridon newspaper, is often writing exposés on criminal activities within the city, espionage by fifth columnists bent on sabotaging the nation’s defense industry, and corrupt politics in the seats of power. Concocting various disguises, John goes out among the criminal element to gather information for his articles. Noting that these people are a cowardly lot, John devises an identity to strike fear into his enemies. Clad in the black of night and the red of rage, John has the skull and crossbones upon his chest as a symbol to all evildoers of their ultimate fate! Thus is born the Black Fury, nemesis of evil! Although the Black Fury has no known special abilities, he exhibits feats of physical might that are beyond the average person. He can lift objects of incredible weight and toss them great distances. He is able to leap from tall structures onto the streets below without any apparent harm. The Black Fury is always being shot at, but never seems to be harmed. Strong magic, indeed! When a police officer friend of John Perry’s is slain, he takes the murdered policeman's son in as his ward and becomes his guardian. And so, Chuck Marley comes to live with John, and he also becomes his companion in crime-fighting, Kid Fury! Only operating for a short time, the Black Fury and Chuck, the Kid Fury, cease their activities in mid 1942. |
