    In the killing heat of the African desert Foreign Legionnaire Tom Corbet and his company of Foreign Legionnaires is ordered by the sadistic Lieutenant Cracket check on the restless Mbangi tribe. One by one, the legionnaires perish from thirst and exhaustion until only Tom remains alive! Stumbling on a pond covered with phosphorescent vapors, Tom cups his hands and drinks the glowing liquid from the pond! A few moments later, the waters transform an astounded Tom Corbet. "I feel like a new man" he exclaims as he sees his Legion uniform replaced by a strange costume. Just then a tiger attacks Tom. But he kills it with a bolt of the "neonic" powers, which shoot from his hand! Flying away through the air on a spiral of light, Neon the Unknown is born!
