A-MAN
The Amazing Man

Around the time of World War I, high in the mountains of Tibet, the Council of Seven takes a young orphan under its wing and trains him to perfection. By the time he is 25, young John Aman has awesome strength and near-invulnerability. Each of the Council of Seven does his part in developing in the orphan all the qualities of one who would excel all in wisdom and courage. His friend, the young chemist Nika, endows him with the power to make himself disappear in a cloud of green vapor! John Aman promises the Council always to be good, kind, and generous. Then John passes a grueling set of challenges: a tug-of-war with an elephant, a duel with a deadly cobra using only his teeth, a knife flung through his throat, a test involving 1000 questions in the languages of all nations. Finally, Aman returns to America where he fights crime as the aptly named Amazing Man! But the one snag in his crime-fighting career is the Great Question (see individual entry) a rogue council member with great telepathic powers. The Great Question can take mental command of Amazing Man and have him do dastardly deeds until Amazing Man can break free of the Great Question's mental domination.

In the first six months of his career, Amazing Man fights crime in a business suit, but soon he adopts a simple costume: a pair of shorts, a pair of boots and a harness across his chest with a shield with the letter "A" inside in the center. Amazing Man's rescued Zona Hendersen, a reporter for the New Orleans Reporter, from Garlock a supposedly magical modern-day Louisiana pirate from his castle hideout along the coast of New Orleans. Zona became Amazing Man's girlfriend and partner in understanding the criminal mind, something that Amazing Man’s training didn’t cover. In August 1941 Amazing Man make Zona’s kid brother his partner as  Tommy the Amazing Boy (see individual entry), wearing a similar costume but lacking any superpowers. The two heroes battle criminals, thwart invasion attempts, and outwit the Great Question, but Aman always has time for a quick hug for his girlfriend. Both crime fighters ended their careers in 1942 for some unknown reason. Amazing Man was also called the Green Mist from time to time.
