The Liberator

Prodded by a fellow professor at Claflin College, Dr. Nelson Drew takes up the challenge of deciphering an ancient Egyptian scroll, containing the secret of the compound Lamesis, the fumes of which grant the recipient great strength, speed and stamina. Nelson Drew concocts this potion but he is overwhelmed by the fumes and buffeted by waves of energy, which transform him into a superhuman dynamo. The newly powerful Nelson Drew decides to use his gifts to serve his fellow man. One of his students Annabel, whom Drew loves, has always chided the bookish professor for his lack of spine. Now, Annabel and a classmate drop by Nelson's laboratory on their way to a masquerade party. Not recognizing the powerful figure before them as Drew, Annabel accuses the "stranger" of doing away with poor Nelson. Her classmate tries to stop Nelson, but the professor knocks him silly. Drew carries off the college boy and puts on the young man’s party costume, his own clothes being shredded due to his increased size. Annabel calls the police and Nelson flees, with Annabel and the revived student in hot pursuit. Meanwhile, criminals kill Nelson’s friend and fellow professor, Dr. Forbes, and steal his new bombsight. But not before Annabel stumbles upon the murder scene and is taken hostage by the criminals. Nelson Drew goes in hot pursuit of the kidnapping criminals and trails them to their hideout. There Nelson Drew swears to liberate all those who are preyed upon by evil. Thus is born the Liberator. The murdering thieves try to make good their escape but are eventually defeated by the Liberator who frees the captive Annabel. Such was the first adventure of America's new champion of justice, the Liberator!
