| Tom Standish encounters a mysterious black ray that gives him and his young friend Bud Pierce the ability to soar like eagles. Being patriots, Tom and Bud become the American Eagle and Eaglet (see individual entry), America's home-front crimefighters. On one case the American Eagle and Eaglet encounter saboteurs who use hot air balloons to rain down death and destruction upon America's war industries. Here their powers are limited, for they need air to breathe in the upper atmosphere of Earth. Undaunted, they press on and defeat these hooded criminals at their own game. In another adventure, the American Eagle and Eaglet fight Nazis who would wreck one of America's favorite sports, football, by blowing up dormitories and even wiring the goal posts with explosives to give America a black eye and to instill fear in her people. But the flying duo saves the day once again! |
