The Falcon I

    The new year of 1940 would usher in a new hero known as the Falcon, who aids the Daily Express in its efforts to rid Central City of gangsters.

    Things are quiet for a while, but one day city editor Jim Boyd gets a tip on a sensational story. The editor calls in Flash Calvert, the ace reporter. He tells Calvert that a gang held up the Klondike Café and orders him to get over there and phone in the facts for an extra. Flash hops in his car and dashes to the scene of the crime. At the café, he discovers a cigar lighter with the initials "SW" on it, concludes that it belongs to the hoodlum Slug Wickum, and promptly turns it over to the police.

    Flash phones in his discovery to the city editor's desk, and before long it makes front-page news! Flash returns to his newspaper office and is confronted by his editor Jim Boyd, who informs him that he's got the wrong guy, as Slug Wickum has come in to prove his innocence by producing the custom cigar lighter. Jim fires Flash, and Slug takes a swing at him. But Flash is too quick for Slug, and it is the crook who gets a sound thrashing. After Slug crawls away in defeat, Flash persuades his editor for one more chance to prove his case.

    Trailing the suspect back to his lair, Flash spies on the gang leader and his henchmen, as Slug brags how he's fixed his alibi to be foolproof. Suddenly one of Slug's men sees Flash spying on them. They rush out and surprise Flash; overpowering him, they drag him up to the rooftop. Before Slug orders his cronies to toss Flash off the roof, Calvert goads Slug into admitting his guilt, which the gloating crime boss does, since in a few moments Flash will be eating pavement.

    Finished with his tale of deceit, Slug orders his thugs to heave Flash over the edge, and they comply. But in a few minutes a mysterious figure descends down upon them. It's the Falcon! The gangsters make a rush for the Falcon, but he explodes into action with hands and feet moving with lighting speed, smashing the gang's resistance. Like a devastating hurricane, the Falcon overtakes the fleeing coward know as Slug Wickum and makes him sign a confession or meet a certain date with death! The Falcon, guardian of the press, refuses to reveal his identity until the city is free of crime, and he suddenly disappears as mysteriously as he arrived. This was the only case of the Falcon.
