Aaahhh! The Duke of Darkness |
|
Horrible dreams come to life and menace the slumber of a peaceful city--it is time for the Duke of Darkness, the guardian of right and justice, to step in! At the local police headquarters, where the Duke of Darkness resides, the Chief of Police is trying to incarcerate the Duke. "Hoodeenie couldn't get this padlock open, Duke!"
taunts the Police Chief. But the bars can’t hold the Duke. Meanwhile rich Mr. P.G. Banks is having nightmares courtesy of Mr. Slumber, the master of the nightmare world. When he was alive, Mr. Slumber was a rival of Mr. Banks, whom he called Piggy Banks, because he was a skinflint. Now from beyond the grave Mr. Slumber seeks his revenge by inflicting terrible dreams upon P.G. Banks. Going to the police chief to report the attempts on his life through his deadly "dreammares," the Chief informs him that there is really nothing to fear as it is all in his mind. But the very important Mr. Banks demands protection; the Chief reluctantly gives him a guard, Patrolman Casey. The Duke decides to tag along. Soon enough Mr. Slumber strikes, first at Patrolman Casey and, when he is out of the way, at P.G. Banks. But the Duke confronts Mr. Slumber and his evil nightmare minions for an all-out fight. "Ah, you are the good ghost I've heard speak
about? Well, well! And what do you propose to do, pray tell?" Mr. Slumber
laughingly asks. Realizing that Mr. Slumber is bent on scaring the wits out of the town, the Duke deduces that the Chief of Police will be his next victim. And, sure enough, as the Duke returns to police headquarters, the Chief is threatened by a deadly nightmare. The Duke challenges Mr. Slumber to a duel of spirits. If he looses, the Duke agrees to remain in Slumberland for eternity and be tortured by the evil Mr. Slumber. If he wins, Mr. Slumber must leave this plane of existence forever. Slumber agrees and the battle is on! Struggling against titanic odds, the Duke of Darkness overcomes the hordes of hell that Mr. Slumber pits against him. Slumber learns too late that he cannot win, so he surrenders. "You guys gave me a pretty good scrap! But in life or death...good always triumphs over evil, Mr. Slumber," the Duke relates as he casts Mr. Slumber and his rotten helpers back into their graves forever! And so the Duke of Darkness stands ever ready to defend the living from the evil dead. |
