September 1943 Biology professor Kenneth Stevens is working on an experimental flight fluid, but he is in a rush, since he is on his way to a costume party. Dressed in his party costume, which makes him look like a "fugitive from the post office," the harried Kenneth accidentally cuts his hand and gets some of the experimental formula into the wound. Remarkably, the formula makes Kenneth Stevens lighter than air. He quickly devises a gravity belt to aid him in his "floating" ability. Not really capable of flight, Stevens can hover or float in the air. His gravity belt determines how high he can go by "cutting off" the flow of gravity around him. When he needs to descend, he just increases the gravity belt's power, making him heavier by returning gravity around him to normal. Kenneth Stevens dons the costume regularly now and fights crime as Airmale--that dynamic professor of flying crime control! One day, Kenneth's nephew Bobby comes to live with him and eventually becomes Airmale's scruffy sidekick Stampy (see individual entry), and together they battle the forces of evil. |
