| Young high school student Tommy Preston, while working with his grandfather in his antique shop, discovers a relic in the shape of a heart. Cleaning the heart to see it better, Tommy is surprised to find an inscription upon the gold heart. Translated, the Aztec message reads: "Those who throw their heart and soul into the cause of justice shall have great strength and courage upon speaking the words, ‘Heart of Gold’." Uttering the words, Tommy is transformed into Golden Lad, who possesses the abilities of flight and strength beyond belief. Although Golden Lad wears no mask, even his own grandfather doesn't recognize him as Tommy Preston. Tommy's career as Golden Lad is short, but, near the end of his exploits, Golden Lad is joined by Peggy Shane, Golden Girl (see Golden Girl). |
