Here is one of the earliest heroes ever to take up the mantle of public protector. Read the profile on....

The
Wizard

Genius inventor, Blane Whitney is the great-great grandson of General Steven Whitney, the revolutionary war hero, and younger brother to Grover Whitney, chief of Naval Intelligence. Blane trains himself from youth to be a "super brain" until, as an adult, he has a photographic memory, a powerful mind, the power to "see" far distant events through what he calls his "Supersensory Perception." H e creates such weapons like the Dynamagno-Saw ray projector, the H2-VX-0 ray and the secret formula F22X. Blane now becomes the Wizard, the man with the "Super Brain," and donning a tuxedo, a red cape and a domino mask ventures forth to fight crime and saboteurs plaguing his native DC. After being temporarily blinded in one of his earlier adventures, the Wizard resolves to protect himself by creating a costume that renders him invulnerable. Also at this time, the Wizard picks up a career long partner named Roy the Superboy (see individual entry). In addition to his new invulnerability, the secret formula F22X increases the Wizard's strength and agility, but a simple blow to the head can still render him unconscious. The Wizard (and sometimes ROY) occasionally teams up with the Shield and his junior partner, Dusty the Boy Detective (see individual entries), to fight larger menaces. It is not known if the Wizard is related to Walter Whitney , a newspaper columnist who was also the crimefighter Bob Phantom (see individual entry).
