The
Spider Widow

    Tired of being a wealthy, beautiful, and idle sportswoman, Dianne Grayton decides to become a fearsome dispenser of justice. To do so, Dianne disguises herself as an old hag to instill fear in her enemies as the Spider Widow! Criminals fall when confronted with this deadly witch and her small army of black widow spiders. Within a few months the Spider Widow is joined by a mysterious man known only as the Raven (see individual entry) who becomes her sometime partner. The pair battle their foes with a ferocious tenacity! On several occasions, an unfriendly rivalry between the Spider Widow and the Phantom Lady (see individual entry on Phantom Lady I), results in several team-ups. Through the bungled intervention of the Raven, the female crime fighters become friends! The Spider Widow possesses no extraordinary powers but was a fine athlete and fighter due to her activities as a sportswoman. The Raven knows the Spider Widow's civilian identity, but she doesn’t know his. The Spider Widow and the Raven remain a team throughout their careers.
