Atlas
the Mighty

Striding from the mists of ancient legend into the world of today comes a man who can shoulder the burden of crime and corruption. Known only as Atlas the Mighty. This man of colossal strength finds no menace too tough to tackle.

Healthy boys in an Oregon Civic Construction Corps (CCC) camp suddenly grow dizzy and fall at their work. The strange illness sends many of them to the infirmary. An urgent telegram reaches Atlas the Mighty....

"Trouble in the C.C.C. Camp...What the deuces? It says the water has been poisoned there!" reads Atlas. Arriving at the stricken camp, Atlas goes into action at once...

"You say this well goes through solid rock to an underground stream?" he asks the well’s caretaker. "Yes" he replies. In the valley below the camp...

"This underground stream feeds the well," points out the caretaker.

"Hmm! Let’s go back now," Atlas suggests. Speeding back to the well, Atlas drops down the black shaft way on the bucket chain. Reaching the bottom...

"This looks like a mine tunnel...very strange!" comments Atlas aloud. He goes exploring and finds that a leaking vat is the source of the water poisoning. Eventually, he comes upon a startling scene.

"Great guns! An arsenal!" exclaims Atlas. Then Atlas sees a violent argument between two men and a girl.

"Let me go! I'm not a spy! I was only searching for my dad’s lost gold mine!" proclaims the struggling blonde.

"She'll expose us. We've got to get rid of her!" one of the crooks declares. Like a thousand thunderbolts, Atlas smashes into the girl’s captors. In the excitement, the two men escape with the girl.

One crook brags, "That bomb I tossed will kill all of 'em. We got the dough, and nobody will get wise!" Unshaken by the blast, Atlas the Mighty pits his colossal strength against the rock-jammed exit.

"I'm the only one here who escaped death. Now I can rescue that girl!" a determined Atlas vows as he clears his way to freedom. But the two men still hold her captive as they flee in a fast car.

"Outside at last! Oh-oh there's a car by the cliff!" notes Atlas as he springs into the air.

"She'll be torn to shreds in the rapids!" exclaims one crook as he tosses the helpless blonde woman into the raging river.

"Don't watch her drown...Let's get outta here!" pleads the second crook. With incredible speed Atlas dashes down along the highway and plunges over the steep cliff.

"That was a close call, miss," Atlas says to the nearly drowned woman as they swim for shore.

"Oh! You're the same fellow! How on earth did you escape?" asks the grateful but startled woman. Unaware of the girl’s dramatic rescue, the thugs speed on.

"Who says yuh can't get away with murder!" the brazen thug boasts. But their victim is giving Atlas valuable information.

"That gold mine talk was just a gag...I'm a British agent sent to find the missing war materials!" states the blonde woman. The girl leads Atlas to her hidden car.

"I get it! That stuff was stolen from Canada...and those men were U.S. fifth columnists!" shouts out the hero.

Nimbly climbing a tree, Atlas wonders aloud, "Maybe I can spot them from here! There they go! Switching to a truck!" Atlas follows the crooks by leaping from branch to branch. He exerts his great strength on one tree; it snaps and with a deafening roar crashes onto the truck!

"Musta been a freak lightning bolt!" a crook points out. But then...

"Hey, guy! Watch out!" screams out another hood, as Atlas plunges down upon them. With amazing speed Atlas scatters them with jaw-cracking blows...

"This roughing up will keep you guys cool until the border patrol picks you up!" Atlas gleefully states as he subdues the last of the crooks and then heads for the depot. "Now I'll head back to the supply depot in this truck they hijacked."

A guard at the depot tries to halt the mighty hero. "Come along inside, bud," Atlas quips as he grabs the guard and deposits him in the cab. Getting to the guard gate...

"Quick! It’s a spy! Stop him!" shouts the gate guard.

"Me...a spy? Well, can you tie that!" But Atlas doesn't stop to argue. "Sorry bud, but you're the spies around here!" Atlas proclaims as he punches the gate guard unconscious. In the main office, he finds a suspicious officer.

"Captain, I want to report that the truck men taking war supplies to Canada are fifth columnists!" states Atlas.

"Yeah, some story!" the skeptical captain retorts. Behind them a door opens.

"Yes...and it’s the truth, Captain! He saved my life, and the border patrol is bringing the culprits here," the British female agent informs the Captain. In the Army depot office...

"This fellow calls himself Atlas, Captain, and he sure lives up to his name!" proclaims the General as he shakes Atlas's hand. "I wish we had more like him around here!"
