Top Secret: Messages!

Send all letters to Richard Boucher at PR-Publications@webtv.net ======================================================== Editorial Hi Gang! First off, welcome to our "DC Super Special Spectacular" issue. Darrin and I have labored hard to make this a very special issue. Secondly, let me personally apologize for the lateness to the subscribers on our mailing list for not getting a sneak peek preview as usual. This is my fault, and due to "certain" circumstances (some of them beyond my control) that cropped up during the time we started this BIG issue, and now, I found myself falling way behind in completing this issue. I hope the wait was worth it. But let me state a few things, right here and now, this issue is still not what it should have been. Why's that? Well first off, there was to be three new Secret Squadron biographies, that are still in various states of completion, and won't be seen this month (or last month either), second the Mental-Man profile is not really done (but will be shortly) so what I substituted was a brief "filler" until it is ready to go. Third and final is the "issue" of what constitutes the "Golden Age", in that almost all the profiles for May are from the 1950's, (and one from 1961, and another from 1966), and a lot of people will not/do not consider this "true" Golden Age. Indulge me here a bit, as I have/had stated before that we would be covering the time period from 1936 to 1960 (in our mission statement) and in this context, this issue does fall into that criteria (mostly). For those two stories that do not fall into that category, all I can say is that the original character "associated" with those two profiles, did have their start in the recommended time frame (Bat-girl associated with Batwoman, and Lois Lane obviously with Superman). So if this takes away the enjoyment of this issue for you, or you feel it defeats the purpose of this site, well forgive me for indulging in a life long obsession with obscure characters, but I felt/feel it was worth their inclusion into this issue. And last but not least, I'm sad to announce the end of the giveaway contest, but due to economical reasons, we are stopping the contest with the mailed drawings for March # 3's issue. I'm afraid it just couldn't be helped, but if things change, we may reinstate the contest at a later date, OK? So enough from me, onto the letters from you, our viewership, who we most cherish! God Bless, ========================================= I just wanted to stop and let you know that you've got a GREAT website! I caught issue #3 and #4 but missed the first two issues! Bummer! Have you spotlighted Centaur Comics' "The Arrow" yet? I'm a huge Green Arrow fan. I've got a gigantic website dedicated to Green Arrow at http://www.fgi.net/~grnarrow/index.html It is called The Unofficial Green Arrow Compendium. It is dedicated to archiving the history of Green Arrow from 1941 to the present. I hope you get a chance to check it out. I will be sure to plug and link your site. It has quickly become one of my favorite sites. I love obscure heroes and villains of the Golden Age. By the way, I'm working on self publishing some of my own comics and I've been talking back and forth to DC about doing some stuff. In the coming weeks, I'd love to contribute a drawing to your site of some Golden Age heroes gathered together! I'm also looking into copyright and I'd love to write and draw new stories about those heroes of yesteryear myself soon. I'm an art professor at a local college and have time on my hands to do some of these other projects too. Anyways, I've got to get back to work but wanted to drop you a line. Great site! Hi Scott, Thank you for your kind words. I am an admirer of your site as well. You do an excellent job there, don't stop! Centaur's ARROW has not been featured yet, but he will be probably in the November issue. We only featured one other "archer" so far and that was Alias the Spider in issue # 1. Sorry you missed #'s 1 & 2, but don't fear, they will be back eventually. Issue # 5 (May) features a few archers, so stay tuned. As far as submissions of any sort goes, I really hadn't thought about that issue, I guess I figured most people wouldn't be "up" for it. But I do like the idea, so let me know exactly what you'd like to do, and who knows, maybe we can work something out. I too would like to at least write new stories about the "old" characters, and in my own way, I will attempt to do that here @ Squad Central some day soon. This site takes more time than I originally thought it would to do on a monthly basis, but it's very much worth it when I receive letters like yours. Once again thanks for the kind words, and come on back for # 5 and see who we have for those bowslingers! Also If you don't mind I'd like to add you as a link to our "link section" (we haven't done his have we ?) as I find you site outstanding. Richard Boucher Hi, I found your web site in the new price guide. I guess that it is obvious that I am a fan of the obscure. I have a deep interest in the GA characters, but financially am only able to collect SA. I do have a copy of Blazing #2 featuring the Green Turtle and some other obscure heroes. Are you interested in any of these I could send info about? I would also like to know if you could archive previous issues of your site mag. It is an invaluable reference and the 4th is my first and I would like back issues. Thanks narftar Hi James, Thanks for the kind praise. We really appreciate it! Please send whatever you can on/from Blazing # 2. I'd be especially interested in info on "Burma Boy". As for archiving the old issues, well we do have a specific plan for them in the future, but not just yet. Be assured you will get a chance to see them once again, and we'll make the announcement, where and when it's appropriate. Issue # 1 came out in late Nov., early Dec. of '98, and was "up" until the end of Jan. '99. Granted # 2 was only up for the month of February (and it was a short month), as was # 3, the March issue, but it would be too soon to "rerun" them again. I promise you, and everyone else whose requested this, we will bring them back in a manner, that we feel everyone will enjoy. Just be patient for a while, and in the meantime come on back for # 5 in May as it's a "special" issue, that is sure to be a blast. And it's nice to see our placement in the Overstreet Price Guide is paying off. God bless & take care!
