Send all letters to Richard Boucher at PR-Publications@webtv.net ======================================================== Editorial Hi Gang, And welcome back for issue #
4. It's been a lot of fun doing this and your feedback is important
and greatly appreciated. So thanks to all who have visited and sent
information, and the really nice compliments (we like them too!). This
issue we feature in our "Companions and Criminals"
section the first in a series, on "Media Stars", that is, a look at
the super hero/heroine in other media, besides the comic book. These
features are from my own personal collection of movie serials, and for
those who want to know more, check out our message
board for more info. Also thanks to all of you out there for giving
our new "SECRET
SQUADRON" section such a warm reception, look for the new installments
throughout the month, as we add them when we finish them, let us know
who you like best, OK?. Next month's issue is a "SPECIAL" issue, focusing
on only one company. So come on back next month and see for yourself
if you like this approach. Also write us and let us know what you think
and want to see.
Take care of yourselves. ======================================================== Given that you are resurrecting so many heroes from the past and rendering them accessible to those of us in the present, you are aptly named the Good Guys and Gals. As a long-time comics fan and a scholar of pop culture, I love the site and the chance to actually see the characters in costume. The text sections are informative, especially the publishing information, since I am doing some work that I may publish (someday) on comic book heroes. And your links page is a wonderful guide to other materials on the Web. A few questions: Are you archiving materials from previous issues or plan to put them up later? In the first "Hall of Shame" entry you had a character called Madame Satan with no publishing information. I've never heard of the character and I'd love to know where she originally appeared and for how long. Reading the text, I assume that MS was one of those rare villains who was given her own strip, but I'd like to be sure. Also I'm glad that you mention the "faithful companions" of these heroes, but, I'm also interested in comparing heroes and villains over the history of comics. If any of the characters you know had an arch enemy (I know that many heroes didn't) could you at least mention them, as you did in this issue with Big Boss, the mobster who killed the Comet. Looking forward to issue 4, and 5, and 6, and... Anthony Bernardo Hi Anthony, We're very glad to be "known" as the G G & G, we try! The publishing info is the best that we can find. Check out our reference section for where we source our info. In all of that section, we combine the most "cohesive" bio we can. Ditto on the links section, we use it extensively to gather info used on this site, that you see the results herein. The visual part is the most fun for me (Richard), as it what keeps me doing this. And yes, there will be an issue 4 & 5, (and 6, 7 & 8) which artwise is completed for April and May, and text wise, we're putting it all together right now. Typically, we "finish" an issue anywhere from 10 days to two weeks prior to it's "debut" to our mail subscribers, sometimes not even that long, but we're trying to get further ahead in issues finished. As you might have noticed with issue # 3, we've added a "new" section, bio's on the narrators of the site, the SECRET SQUADRON, and it "adds" to the work involved on the site, but we hope you find it fun! As far as "back issues" go, we do have every issue to date on disk, for future uses, which we can't go into right now, but we will let everyone know later what's in store for those issues past, when the times right. Madam Satan appeared in PEP COMICS #'s 16 to 21, and has the "claim to fame" of being displaced by Archie Andrew's, which is what MLJ, the publishers of Pep & Madam Satan, changed their name to (ARCHIE COMICS GROUP). Unfortunately, NOT owning every book we profile our characters from, we miss a lot of info, like "Villains/Villianess" and supporting characters. So the "idea" behind the "Hall of Shame" was to bring you those "obscure" or noteworthy "Bad Boys & Broads" ( and ©). We'd like to feature more than one @ a time but currently that's not doable (but we will when we can, check out issue # 5 for proof of that). Same goes with our "Companions" portion of the section, we'd like to do more but... since there is only "me" having to do all the art & writing, (plus research & stuff) time does not permit us to expand those sections yet, heck we'd like to do more than 15 Heroes/Heroines every month too, plus other ideas we have, but we're taking it slow, and growing bit by bit, the MOST important thing is to get the next issue out on time and with the same "quality" we've tried to accomplish in previous issues and, besides, there is a "time" limit to work in, with me here in California, and Darrin in eastern Canada. We must take this into account when it comes to Darrin's time and work as well, so consider that too. Maybe more later, who knows? But thanks for the kind missive it's always good to hear from you people, so that we here @ "Squadron Central" ( and ©), don't work out of a vacuum. Take care and come on back for # 4! Bye now.
